Son is thinking of puttingapes on his 08 1200c (I seem to be his research and development department). Looking at the speedo housing top clamp set up it would seem that you are kind of linited to the height of the risers if you use other than stock risers. Seems like if you go too low in height that the bottom of the speedo housing would hit the tank. If anyone has used other than stock risers I'd appreciate knowing what you used to solve this problem. Heck... I'm just going by photos... he has the bike in Oregon.. and I may be wrong about this whole problem.

 

3" straight risers should work perfect. The speedo should still clear the tank just fine. If not, he could always just flip the risers around and have the speedo up top.
