i got a bike from my father and dont really know to much about harleys and iam leaking oil by where the pipes are and dont know if this is a really big problem or not. can someone help

I'm not an expert, by I doubt anyone will be able to help you without at least knowing the year and model of your bike.

Without knowing more about your bike and specific location of the oil I would guess that you are talking about "oil blow by". This is a pretty well known issue with sportsters. I know if I beat the snot out of mine I will get alot of oil on the pipes and side of the oil tank. This is excess oil that gets spit out of the air filter.

I would google "sportster oil blow by" and see if that helps you clear things up. If not, reply with more info and someone will help. There are a couple things you can do to route the excess oil through a drain tube but I find it easier to just wipe it down while it's hot.

The last thing I will mention is to be sure you check your oil before each ride.
