Default Intake Manfold Question

I've been trying to find a vacuum leak. While pulling the carb, I noticed that the manifild rotates slightly up and down. Doesn"t feel nice and tight.

Is it likely to be leaking and is it possible to pull the manifold without pulling a head?

Thanks

when installing, I grease the seals with silicone, and they do allow some flexibility to the manifold. If it's been there a while, and it's moving freely, the seals are probably toast.
You can get the left side bolts with a cutoff piece of allen wrench and a combination wrench, and the right side bolts I get with a ball allen driver. No head removal required.

Thanks for the reply, Hogdoctor. I can't back-out the right front flange bolt far enough to remove it without the manifold interfering. If all the bolts are loosened, is it possible to rotate the manifold far enough to remove the bolts?

Take the bolts out of the left side an the bolts on the right side do not have to come out of the flange to get the intake off. Just put seals an intake on my 95 yesterday.

RA51 thanks for the reply. Which is left and right and which side of your manifolds are slotted? My slots are on the port (boat lingo-left while seated) side.

I got a bit nervous this evening when I tried to remove the first bolt and couldn't get it all the way out, so I stopped. I was tired and frustrated about other things. Will take another look tomorrow.

Thanks again

left and right is from the riders point of view. (ie left is port) usually the slotted
end of the rings is on the left side of the manifold. Loosen all four screws, then you
can move things around to get them the rest of the way out. Clean off the spigots and head surfaces, put a thin coat of silicone grease on the seals, put the rings and seals on
the manifold and slide it back into place, install all found bolts and draw them back into the heads evenly, keeping the manifold inlet flange vertical. If you like, you can draw the flanges to 1/8 inch from the head, mount the carburetor to align the manifold, then
tighten the left bolts, then pop the carb back out without moving the manifold and torque the right bolts.

Thanks for all the support. This UG is is terrific!

Put the manifold seals in last weekend and the carb back on. Bit of a bear. Had to cut off an Allen wrench to get the right side, and used the leftover piece and a combo wrench for the left side, (just like the instructions).

Cleaned and checked the carb while I had it off. Switched the low speed jet. Someone had put a 48 n and it seemed to run too rich so I put a 45 in. (42 is stock).

So today I finished adjusting the cables and started it up. Wow! After the idle settled into adjust, it ran better than it has since I got it. Happy day! I went for a short test drive and came home three hours later. Lovely day on the Suncoast for riding.
