Intake Manifold Gasket Replacement
on a 98 EVO. Seems pretty straight forward, but I'm wondering
if there are anyproblems to look out foror if there are any tricks
that make it easier. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I went and bought a standard L-shaped allen wrench, put the short leg in a vise and bent the corner a little more, then cut the short leg nearly as short as possible still allowing full engagement into the hex of the bolt.
It comes off easy. Be sure to clean everything up nicely.
Some people recommend to get a good seal to loosen the head bolts when tightening the intake bolts to allow the heads to float to the intake. I didn't. I figured it would line up OK.
I just carefully watched the gap between the intake and the heads. Before completey tightening the bolts, install the carb and air cleaner backplate to make sure the intake is squared up and the backplate banjo bolt thread in. Then carefully remove the backplate and carb without moving the intake, and finish tightening the intake bolts. I didn't torque them, and I used anti-sieze. Not sure if that was the right thing to do or not.
It wasn't hard....just tedious.
I'm wondering if I should put a little assembly lube
on the rubbers to help everything float into
position. I'm going to try it without loosening
the head bolts. It appears there were some leaks.
Glad I'm in here. I think after this I may need one
more I re-jet/adjustment of the carb she'll run fine.
Thanks again

Don't know if helped or not but I used high temp silicon grease on the gaskets. No need to loosen the head bolts, just make sure the manifold floats before tighting up the allen screws. And the flanges are marked front and rear, don't get them reversed like I did.

inch off of a 1/4 inch allen wrench, put this in the socket screws
andturn it with a 1/4 inch box wrench. This worked pretty good.
I used a little silicon grease to make everything slide into place.
First I snugged everything down and attached the carb/bracket
to position the manifold. Then tightened everything. I used a little
blue locktite to make sure nothing vibrates loose. The old gaskets
were shot. The bike is humming sweetly now!! No more popping
and farting. Sounds better too!! Time to Ride Ride Ride!!!!
Thanks for the help.
