Cool My Sportster vibes @ 40 mph

I own a XL 1200 ('03) Custom and at 40 mph it vibes. Then when it goes to 55 mph the vibes stop. Do you think I need to balance tires? or what do you suggest me? Is that normal? Thanks

Solid mount right?
Mine will vibrate the mirrors loose.
The are little sweet spots here and there where everything works smooth,,but otherwise its a vtwin vibrator with wheels

You didn't mention what gear you were in at 40 mph. My 04 1200C is very smooth and no mirror vibration, but if I were to put it into 4th or 5th gear at 40, it would vibrate a bunch.

Yep,,exactly it,,regardless of what gear you're in, it's the rpm thats the determinning factor,,but your 04 is rubber mounted

Well duh.. yours is a rubber mount. But you are right my bike has a bunch of vibrations most prevalent from 2600 - 3200 rpm. but it acts differently in 4th and especially 5th at those rpm. It is a pisser because that is the rpm range I use the most. 2500 she is coming up on the cam and 3500 she is up on the torque plateau. putting around town I shift @ 3200 an she drops down to 2500 that is a sweet spot power wise but the vibration is annoying. But hell it's a sportster and it's agricultural and some what primitive mechanical architecture is the charm that has held it in good stead for low these 50 years.

Default Well written Ric:

Hell, you should write for a magazine! I was going to respond to this thread, but it looks like an article out of American Iron magazine. Maybe you should change professions, LOL.
