Default speedometer problems

Last time i went for a ride my speedometer would not go over 40mph, no matter how fast i went. When i got home and shut the bike off it also grumbled for a couple off seconds before shutting off. I replaced the speedometer sensor last year and the voltage regulator 4 yrs ago. I have no idea what the problem is. help!! mike

My 96 Sportster did that a couple of times. "They" said it was because of sudden voltage surge when I turned the key on and started the bike. The fix was when stopping use the stop button then turn the key off, on starting turn the key on then hit the run button then the start button. That takes the initial surge off the delicate electronic speedo. That worked for me. It's a habit I've gotten into and use it on my SB now. The next time your speedo acts up, pull over and hit the stop button, the run button then the start button. My buddy does this on his sportster. It's cheap and worth a try. Good luck.
