I have a 95 1200 with about 6,500 miles on it. All of a sudden the speedo [stock electric] started lagging on acceleration and then reading about 10 mph low at all speeds.
I would appreciate any advice about this condition.
Thanks
Well, speed sensor? I have also heard tell from a famous HDForum'r that you should check your spark plug wire routing.. apparently, in the wrong position...it can have that effect on your speedo.
Did you recently washyour bike, or was it foggy/dew-y out? Mine would sometimes act like that due to moisture. My speedo would top out at around 30 mph even though I knew I was flowing with traffic at 60mph. Whenever it acted up, I wouldstop, shut the bike down, turn the key off/pull it out, and then refire the bike.....It would be back to normal. The heat from the engine must have evaporated the moisture in the connection. Might be your issue as well.
My 96 1200 would do that occasionally. Someone told me to start using the off/run button. Had something to do with voltage surge. Turn the key on then flip to run and hit start. To kill the eingine, use the stop button, then turn the key off. The voltage surge would diminish or the surge needed for the starter engagement would not effect the electronics. It worked for me. After using this method on my sportster, I automatically use it on my St Bob. No problems with either since.
