Speedo Issues
I have a 2000 Sportster (1200) and am having an issue with the speedometer. Sometimes the speedo does not work properly - the needle moves very slow and does not go up over 25 mph when I know for a fact I'm going at least 40 mph. When this happens the bike seems to run kinda funny.....sluggish maybe??? Not sure if that is coincdence or not. Generally if I shut the bike off completely and restart this fixes the problem for a while. And days later it may happen again.
Any ideas???

Thats an odd problem, I got a 98' Hugger that I just replaced the speedo. Is your a stock speedo or an aftermarket? If it is stock, Your speedo runs off you 5th gear in you transmission, to a little magnet senser down just behind your rear pipe and starter up to your trianglular 3 pin connector under your seat. From there it runs along you frame to the speedo. I would start by making sure that the trianglular connector is clean and tight and not vibrating around too much. If it is you are going to have to go to your manual and go through the troubleshooting steps. Make sure that you hit the trip meter and get the error code and match it to the manual. It should tell you what the problem is. Voltage too high, Too low, Senser error ect. How this helps and good luck.
