Default Speedo inoperable

So I have a 1995 Sportster 1200 I purchased from someone approximately two months ago. I was on a trip this weekend, and looked down at my speedo and the needle was sitting on 0, odometer was not working and backlight is out. What would cause this.

The bike has a aftermarket drag specialities speedo installed on it.

Thanks for any input.

Don't know if you have the same set up, but... on my 2002, had the same thing happen. I would loose cluster lighting, some times directionals, and sometimes the speedo. Ended up being the directional canceller(located under the seat on mine). Don't know wth that has to do with the speedo, but changed it out and never had the problem again.
