Default Need Help !

I would like to raise the front end of my 08 883L 4 inches. One of my questions is by doing that will it harm or do any damage to my engine by taking it off level.
Also is it a job...replacing the tubes with new ones 4 inches longer...that I can do myself with some mechanical skills. I have changed out the handle bars added 4 inch risers and replaced the grips. I have had the bike 3 months and really like it but want to make a few changes... Thanks for any help...

Just wondering WHY no one would give me any info on my question? Is this a " you got to be in the click" to get an answer to your questions or what? Just wondering....I did not think that it was a real stupid one or was I wrong????

No, you don't have to be in "the click" to get an answer. I just find most of the people don't know because they are new to bikes. Going four inches up in the front will not damage you engine in anyway really, but it may mess up your steering/trail angles. You may want to study up on it first. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle...cycle_geometry Just a thought.

+ 1 Not properly done it could actually make your bike a little dangerous to ride.

Why do you want to raise it 4 inches? You gonna raise the rear too? Are you going to change the rake? I guess we need a little more info. Physically changing the fork tubes is pretty straight forward, as long as you have the right parts. I agree on the geometry, you may move the center of gravity to an unstable position.

Kick it out and rake it with bearing cups or triple trees. Then you can weld you on a hardtail, mount up your fender, horse shoe oil tank and you're good to go.

Everyone is right. If you lift the front end and leave the rear alone you might make the bike one crazy ride and i don't mean crazy looking. Any time you raise or lower a vehicle you mess with the handleing and what you want to do is a major change. Like was said-rack it you and do it right.

Other then the very poor handling and stability that has been mentioned I thought of some other things to keep in mind. Fluid levels. With just the use of longer fork tubes and no rake adjustment, if you lift up just the front end on a XL low 4" (which is crazy) you are not going to get very accurate fluid readings even on level ground. Imagine trying to check your oil. Would be like trying to check it on a hill. How about the master cylinder reservoirs? Front could be adjusted, but the back? What about checking your transmission oil level? Just some food for thought.

I just thought that it would look better with a little lift in the front. That is why I was wondering if it would hurt anything with the motor taking it off level...Thanks for your answers I am new at this game.

Even 1 inch will change the look of the bike, 4 inches is excessive.... Kinda like putting a 6 inch lift on the front of a pick-up truck and no lift on the back...
