I've got forwards but last summer toying with the idea of highways on the engine guard. Did the hiways on guard and love it out on the open road. Infact when i put my feet back on forwards I actully feel cramped.

I'm only 5'10

I am 6' 250lbs. and I took the forward controls off my nightster in the first week just hated the feeling of my feet being way out there felt like i didn't have control and just not comfortable. But I also have be racing BMX bikes for 10 years so I like the legs right under me and I have the stock seat and rigid struts so I need to use my legs as shocks can't really do that with the forwards.

IMO, mids for low bars, forwards for tall bars.

IMO forwards all the way. I also bought a set of clamps that go on my front down tubes and a set of pegs and extensions. When I go on long distance rides 200+ I just clamp on the "highway pegs" and away I go. It offers another foot position and is very comfortable on the highway, and is a cheap alternative to a crash bar and pegs.(about $100 total,I had the pegs) I also use my rear pegs on longer runs. It reminds me of my sportbike days.

It's all about the rider.
I'm 6'1, have 14" apes and love my mids.

I have a '08 1200 custom that comes stock with forward controls. The dealer added mini ape bars. I am 5' 9" and I love the riding position. I have a '04 XL883 with mid controls and stock bars and hated it. I enjoy the position much better on the new ride.

i got forwards, i like them, but after a long ride it would be nice to give my back a break.

for comfort i would certainly say mids with highway pegs

for looks....well that depends on your style of bike

I would not own a bike with mids. I like rear sets on a sport bike or forwards on a cruiser only. Mids just do not feel right and I'm only 5'8" so I don't know how tall people do it?
