Default 2008 Sportster Nightster

The wife has a 2008 1200N and need to know if the key is supposed to come out of the ignition switch while in the acc position. Local Harley dealer didn't have any idea. I have had to charge the battery several times because of this. Thanks Doug

I just checked on my 08 Nightster and my key does[ come out in the ACC position. I bought the bike new back in 08 and never knew this nor have I had problems with taking the key out while in the ACC position. I guess just make sure you or she turns the key all the way to off before pulling the key out. You should notice that in the ACC position that the speedometer and the odometer do not turn off meaning that the bike is not all the way off.

Default Thanks

Joe,

Thanks for the info. I had a 2003 and didn't have this problem nor did the key come out in that position. Anyway will check into this futher. I did install the battery tender hookups so it is easier to charge the battery.

Thanks again
Doug

Yes, your 2003 key did/should have come out in the ACC position. My '00 does too. Oh, and if your local dealer had no idea about it.....I'd run and find a new dealer.

Yes, keys do come out at the ACC position. it is normal.

Just make sure all your lights are off when you get off and problem solved!

What? I couldn't believe what I was reading so I had to run out and check for myself. Now I can't believe what I'm seeing. WTF? Why did they do this?

Yup - comes right out. Did it a few times myself. You have to take care to turn the key all the way. A good double-check is to look at headlight as you walk away!
