XR-1200 Engine Performance Mods

Yup, Buell XB; 10-15hp more out of the box, 125+ lb lighter, better suspension, better brakes, sharper handling, 15-20mph faster on the top end, ect, ect.... The XR was a HUGE step backwards as far as a sport standard goes from the XB. Of course, the XR has "heritage".
If you're looking for a sporty standard the XR is very nearly the worst performing one out there. I hope you're prepared to spend a LOT of cash to bring it up to par with the rest of the field and even more to make it run with your sportbike pals (unless they can't ride for crap, then you have a fighting chance).

The tuning for both biokes cost the same and the power gain is also the same (-:
I can say this because my daily job is tuning Buell and Sportster models only since 2007.

XR Gearing...
There is a rumer going around that the XR1200 has 883 gearing. Note below from The Motor Co.
Also, I keep hearing the stealership and others claiming 90 HP from the stock US XR. Dyno curves on XR1200ownersgroup.com mostly show 75HP give or take a horse or 2. 90+ HP can be done with intake and exhaust mods, the best of which are said to be from Twin Motorcycles (.nl) in the Neatherlands. FYI...
Drivetrain:2012 XR1200X
Primary Drive Chain, 57/34 ratio
Final Drive Belt, 68/28 ratio

Vance and Hynes makes a complete race kit for the XR at about $3,600. But for street use you could get by with their tuner and exhaust system.
The motor is essentially the Buell XB12 engine which makes 103 at the crank. the XR makes 90 at the crank because HD just did not engineer the air intake any where near as good as Buell so it is starved for more air.
HD also has the XR at about 100 lbs heavier than the Buell. To bad HD does not make Eric Buell the head of developing HD bikes.
