It's Official, My '05 1200C Is Pretty Quick..
Besides owning and collecting Harley's, I also collect high performance cars....
Earlier today I got gung-ho and decided to wash and wax a '94 350 LT1 Caprice that I had 'built up' a couple years ago. Had quite a bit of engine/transmission/suspension work done to it, and it runs very consistant 12.7 quarter mile ET's, run after run after run. Not the quickest car that I own, but it is the most consistant..
Friend of mine has his own "private drag strip", actually an old County road that runs through his property, and when they built and rerouted a new road he just fenced in the old highway so there is no public access. He has over a mile fenced in, and we use it as a private drag strip.
It's perfectly flat, and we have marked off a quarter mile section. Normally we have 'starters' and at least two people at the quarter mile mark, one with a stop watch, and one with a radar detector to get elapsed time.
Today I grabbed a friend, and we took the LT1 and my 1200C out to the track to make a few informal passes.. Didn't have anyone checking ET's or speed at the end, but the Caprice was just tuned and running good, so I'm sure it was running it's normal 12.7 times.
Made 5 runs, and the 1200C was the first to the first line each time. I'm not going to lie and say that I totally 'wasted' the LT1, but it's not like it was neck and neck either. I took the 1200C pretty high up in the RPM range, but didn't abuse it and didn't even bounce it off the 6,000 rev-limiter. Didn't power shift it either, just made pretty quick shifts using the clutch.
One of these days I'll get some folks our there and try to make some accurate runs complete with ET's and terminal speed....
Here is the poor Caprice that is hanging his head in shame, but hey, it's got a top speed of right at 155 MPH so it would be all over that Harley in the top end department...
And the Winner....

Sounds like a good time. I wish I had a private strip at my own use. I am suprised with the amount of cars I have been able to hang with. One was a turbo eclipse, and the other was a V6 tibiron. While they usally had the jump on me, I never let the gap between us get any further apart. :[:-]

Most of the late '80, early 90's 5.0's run low to mid 14 second times (automatic) or high 13 second times for the 5-speed model.
When I first got my '89 LX Hatchback it ran mid 13 second ET's with extensive suspension work but running the 'stock engine' in a good state of tune.
I doubt of the majority of Mustang 5.0's out on the highways are running better than high 13 ET's, at best..
A stock 04+ 1200 Sportster (with the good heads, etc) in a good state of tune should be running low 13 second ET's, and I've heard of some of them dipping into the very high 12's.
