I was going to buy another fender that I could chop, I figure if I ever wanted to go back to the stock look I could but it got me thinking, normally when you chop the fender, you end up chopping the rails too (I dont know what their actually called) so if you were ever to try to put a stock fender back on you'd run into issue right? I mean since now you dont have enough of that rail to support neither a person or the stock fender right? justr wondering since if this is the case I think I"ll just chop the stock fender I have and never look back heh

 

Here's an old pic of my 06. I chopped and painted the rear fender (and the front fender). It was about 2 inches shorter than a stock Nightster. This is about as short as you can go without messing with cutting the frames rails. I liked the look a lot. The only thing better than running a chopped fender, is no fender at all, IMO. I say, do what you want. Be brave - chop the rails. Just be careful you don't hit the rear tire in the process with your grinder. Good luck.

Chop away. I really like the look of a bobbed rear fender such as Streetfighter's, & this certainly does give the option of returning to stock. On the other hand, you can get new fender supports easily enough, so you just have to decide how much you want to chop.

 

Not once you cut the frame rails.




I mean... I guess you could weld some back on and if you cover them with the fender supports so no one sees the scars and drill new holes it would kinda work, but once you chop, you're pretty set in your ways.

 

If you cut the rails, just hold onto the sections you cut off, so you can weld them back on if you so desired at a later date. Then you wouldn't need to re-drill the holes.

 

I say just cut the rear fender like Streetfighter did in that old pic and see how you like it for a bit. Sure the fender struts could be weleded back on, but why do all that if you don't need to? You can always cut later, but can't uncut LOL!
