Default Best carb for an 883?

What are some reccomendations for a carburetor to go on my 883 Sporty? Looking to do some tinkering now that the weather has confined me indoors.

Is there something wrong with it? The best carb for your bike is the one on it. If it needs to be rebuilt or your want to tune it. This site will help you get the most out of it.

I agree. The stock carb is fine. And that website listed has great info of tuning the carb.

Mikuni 42MM, Quicker throttle response and very tunable. Put mine on after my 1200 conversion. Yes it is worth it.

I tried several others on my 91 ,( owned since new 20 years) and have returned to a later model kehien..put the kit/needle in it , add the easy adjust idle air needle,
and you are done ..$$$ ahead, and great performance

Over the years I've used just about every make of carb out there on my Harley's, and without a doubt I prefer the Mikuni HSR 42.

Very VERY easy to tune or adjust, and the accelerator pump provides instant throttle response.

They even have a model that is specific to the Sportster which comes with a slightly smaller Accelerator Pump nozzle (#60 vs #70).

I'm using a HSR 42 on my 95" WideGlide, and the bike is putting out right at 100 horsepower to the rear wheel, and well over 100 pounds of torque.

My Harley mechanic friend has a Minkuni HSR 42 on his 1200 Sportster, and highly recommends them for all carb'd Harley engines.

The CV 40 is perfect for an 883 or a 1200 up to about 95 horses.

I've used a Mikuni in the past and it was a lot of money for no more performance, the only difference was it had quicker throttle response with no load on the engine. The stock 40 MM is the best by far.

For the 883 and no cam mods, stick with the CV stocker. CVs are self-adjusting over a fair range if the carb bore is matched to engine demand.
The HSR is a fine carb IF you go larger displacement and add cams and headwork. On a stock 883, you'd just be pissing away the money.
