Red face another pipe question... sorry

I hate to do it, but I have two questions concerning V&H Shortshots, I have done a search on this forum to try and answer this on my own and have found alot of answers but

1. What is a crossover pipe and do I have that? (I don't think I do)

2. Am I going to need to do anything about the air cleaner and carb?

I know I get better performance with 2-1 but don't like the look.I am not looking for more performance but I don't want to loose any either.

I also want to put apes on my bike and like how deepsea did his. I would like to relocate the speedometer and when I have seen it mounted by the tank it looks like they are smaller tanks. Can I do it with a 4.5 gal tank?

I have an 05 XL1200C

Thanks for your help. If anyone has any home remodleing questions just let me know and I can help there.

If you are running the stock exhaust system then yes you do have an exhaust cross-over tube. It is the long black tubular shaped bracket that is underneath the mufflers that the mufflers bolt to on 04+ XL models.

As long as you have the stock AC on you can just slap the short shots on and go.

As far as performance goes. This gets debated a ton (especially on XL forums) and people say that the short shots will kill your performance, and then along comes a guy with short shots making the same power as a guy with an $800 2 into 1 "performance" pipe. And also unless you do the entire stage 1 (pipes, AC, and re-jet) you aren't going to get much more performance than stock. So I say go for what you want it, it makes you happy, and makes you ride more.

As far as the side speedo mount, I have not seen it on a 4.5 gallon tank, but that doesn't mean you can't do it. The 4.5 is wider than the 3.3 so you might have to make a bracket that sticks out a little more, or just lean over to see how fast you are going. I personally can usually tell how fast I'm going by what gear I'm in so I rarely look at the speedo.

Default speedo clamp on 4.5

i put the side speedo clamp on my 04 1200C (4.5 gal) ,and yes u will have to lean to see it. i also put a 3" tank lift on and mounted the speedo in the middle of that bracket. this is the $13 autometer bracket. i hid my dummy lights under front of the tank.
