A friend with a 03 883 is always complaining about the fuel tank size, just came across a tank on CL for a 04 1200 same color as hers. Is it a simple swap? It is larger capacity I assume, it looks it.

No, it's not a "bolt-on" modification. The Sporty was completely redesigned from the frame up in 2004. Very few parts are compatible between 2003-earlier and 2004-later.
