I have just purchased a 3.3 gallon tank and I am thinking about having it powder coated. Along with the fenders. Is there any special prep for the tank? Is the powder coater responsible for any prep? Or would I be responsible for any gas left in the tank? Do people even have tanks powder coated? Thanks for all your help.
I've seen a few guys do powdercoat. Idk why, though... Expect blemishes in the coat - i.e. dirt nibs....
The powder coater should be responsible for stripping or blasting the tank and fenders. I would go to a painter and have him base/clear them. JMO
Also, as far as I know, there cannot be any damage of the parts like dents. I don't think they can powdercoat over body filler. Not sure though.
have to say bud, your wrong here... good coating work you should not be able to tell the diff in paint or powder... my whole bike is coated, you would never know.. the coater will handle all the prep... sounds like you may need to find a new coater
we also use brazing for body work... either that or welding and grinding... but we fix dents and crap all the time...
here is some of our tin work
Yeah I was about to say, my local PC guy does great work. Hell most of the time better turn out then Paint. So you must have had bad PC guys in the past but I wouldn't categorize them all as bad in your opinion
I appreciate the info. Didn't know powdercoat could turn out so nice. However - I would bc/cc. And I can guarantee you a powdercoat job will never look as nice as a bc/cc wetsand buff job. There's just no way.....
