Did a search and found a number of things but wanted to be a bit more specifc and seek your help if anyone would know the cause.. I am horrible when it comes to electric.
I ran my 2009 Nightster without the front turn signals which I know the rear sets still blinked I believe maybe at a slower rate. Last night I reinstalled the front signals and found that I have no rear brake light hitting either the rear or front brake. Here is what currently happens... when you start the bike you get the running light and as soon as you hit a left or right turn signal it will blink however when the signal stops the brake light becomes luminated and doesnt change by grabbing the brake. I thought maybe when I switched the grips, that shim at the brake lever caused the issue but that would cause it to constantly stay on correct... whereas when I first turn the bike on its only a tailight until a turn signal goes on which then activates the brake light. I plan on taking it to HD but thought someone may have already experienced this and could help...
It sounds like you have a wire pinched or crossed. If you are installing the stock front signals and still have the stock rear signals and did not remove a load equalizer when you removed the front signals, why would one go back in. I would re check everything you did when you changed the grips.
Kind of what I was thinking about the load equalizer anyway since its back to stock. Just trying all options at this point to get it back to working properly.
