Do you have to bolt down the springs on a spring seat to the frame? I built my own bracket that mounts to the bike frame & seat so the seat is bolted. BUT I really don't want to take off the rear half of the bike to drill holes & run bolts to bolt the spring to the frame. Is it necessary? If it is, why is it? Thanks.
Why? Also I don't want to weld on my frame. After grinding the powdercoat off the frame to weld on it, it would never look the same.
Because otherwise you and the seat are going to bounce up and down excessively. Also, it'll put more stress on the point where it's mounted to the frame.
Where the springs rest on the frame will slip around making the rear of the seat unstable. Most of the pans to cover the top of the frame have spring mounts of some type, if not then it is time to weld or drill the crossmember where the springs set.
