Question Confusing Problem

I am having a issue at around 70mph especially on a heavy throttle it starts to cut out. If I can slow down and down shift it will stop. When it starts it is barely noticeable then it will get worse it will not accelerate it will bog down. If I pull the clutch the motor stops running if I engage the clutch it will run. This is all at highway speeds it doesn't do it all the time but it will not do it in 4th. or any lower gear only on the highway while in 5th gear. I was thinking carb or gas related , but I have been searching on here and I think it could maybe be the ignition coil all wires are connected and no corrosion can be seen.
The bike has just turned 34,000 miles the plug wires were replaced at around 20,000 miles according to the previous owner. I changed the plugs in the spring.
I wanted to ask here before I plopped down cash for a new coil and try and change the SOB on the bike.
TIA

Sounds like it's not getting enough fuel.

Is it carbed or injected? Sounds like it needs a bigger main jet (if carbed), re-mapping if injected.

1994 XLH883 is in signature.
No, it's not main jet. It's a clogged filter or some other obstacle.

I would say....either a dirty fuel filter or the timings off

What the OP is describing is carburetor running dry when more fuel is needed. Has nothing to do with jets or timing.

Makes sense to me....but you don't consider blockage in the main jet? Seen it many times on dirt bikes.

As I said it just started this year carb rebuilt last summer new petcock ran fine at beginning of this year. Only does it once in a while I do not know the size of the main jet no filter other then the one on the petcock inside tank.
I welcome all ideas and thanks for the input.

Everything is possible. I've seen some piece of dirt plugging the main jet when throttle is wide open and dropping off when easing down.

To OP. Just unhook the fuel line from carburetor and see how good is the flow.
