Question?
With a new sportster is there a break in period for the motor? If so how many miles how should it be riden ect... The bike has 7 miles on it as of now and i had the dealer do the stage one upgrade
thanks
thanks
I'm sure it does have a factory recommended break-in procedure. My old Evo's recommended procedure was to not exceed 50 MPH for the first 200 miles ... or something like that. Isn't there something mentioned in your owners manual, or service warranty? If not, call the dealer that sold you the bike and ask. You want to be sure to comply with the warranty, those **** heads love to void warranties on any poor bastard that don't follow the requirements.
Congrats on the new ride.

Yes they do. It is in the owners manual that comes with the bike. Best of my recollection is to keep the RPM's down (but NO lugging) and vary the throttle for the first 500 miles. And do a fluid/filter change at 1000.
NO dyno work until after the first 1000 miles.
Ok, just looked it up in my manual. Page 80 on a 2009.
Added to above, no fast starts, no wide open throttle, avoid braking hard for first 200 miles.
