Default 2015 Street Glide break-in period?

Got my bike 7 weeks after I ordered it. Love it! Harley really did a nice job on these new bikes.

Question: Is there or should there be a break-in period?

I asked the tech this question when he went thru the bike with me. He said, No just don't let it chug and don't wind it out.

Wanted to check here and see if I'm missing something or should be doing something I'm not.

I've got about 150 miles on it.

Thx Dave

Everyone has opinions.

I read the owner's manual and the dealer also advised to keep max RPM below 3,200 for the first 500 miles and to vary throttle position so as not to be holding constant RPM. Do not lug engine at low RPM in higher gears.
At 500 miles, you can enjoy higher RPM to 1000 miles. Do not hold the throttle wide open for long periods.

I still goosed my bike occasionally.

Ride safe.

Well you want to seat the piston rings. Cylinder pressure is what seats the rings. Running the engine hard creates cylinder pressure. That being said I didn't go WOT on mine right away, i rode it like a normally would ride any bike. A little heavy on the throttle to scoot away from the lights, and cruising with RPM's in the high 2k's to almost 3k. I did that for a few hundred miles before winding it out. Just had the 1000 mile service completed at about 1300 miles, and just rode it 800 miles to Wisconsin and back this past weekend. No issues, and the bike runs great, and pulls pretty good for a "stock" bike

Ride it like you're going to ride it. Unless of course you ride WOT everywhere you go. There's no need to baby the bike for 500-1000 miles. I bought mine last Tuesday, put about 100 miles on it around town riding normally, then put 800 miles on it this weekend riding to Rolling Thunder in DC and back. Cruise set at 75, rpms at right around 3k constant for about an hour at a time until I hit a little traffic, then back on the cruise.

Thank you! Great responses and really appreciate it.

I've been riding it pretty normal for me. Which is to say I'm riding it without hitting it too hard keeping the rpm's between 2 and 3k and not lugging her at all.

I gave my Night Train hell a few times and probably will here but not just yet.

Thx again

you can run the revs up higher than that. You're not gonna hurt it. Even if you let it ride the rev limiter I'm fairly certain it wouldn't hurt it. Although I highly recommend you NOT do that.

Thanks again. I'm riding it.. not pushing hard and I've had her above 3k, just not too often.

I'm glad I wrote in to check though.

I have a new '15 SG and was told to ride it like I normally ride but not to use the cruise control until after 500 miles. It now has about 1600 miles and within the next 4 weeks she'll get another 4000 miles on her....Utah & Colorado, here I come!

I got my '15 SGS 12 days ago and have about 350 miles on it. I've kept it under 3200 rpms, mostly with a few runs up to 4500.

I normally break-in new engines just how I normally use them. With the engine knocking issues that I've read about on some of the '14's, I'm being cautious.

After 500 miles, it's game on.
