Default Pulled carb and found gas.

Pulled carb off my 883 and found a ton of gas in the throat where the engine and carb meet. I was messing with the throttle while trying to get the carb off so could that be it? Now bike wount start. Any suggestions?

There's still gas in the bowl, so when you disconnected the cables you may have given it a couple of shots of gas.

Your Carb has a mechanical Accel Pump... its the shaft/ rubber boot that connects to the Throttle linkage...

you need to be careful when you remove the throttle cables because you can "PUMP" alot of gas in the motor... its usually a good idea to open the "float bowl" drain screw and get rid of as much gas as you can out of the "BOWL" that way you will minimize the amout of gas the accel pump has to work with...
That will prevent this from happening in the future!

NOW to fix your current problem:

Remove the spark plugs.
Crank over the engine with the "carb off" and the plugs out... hold a rag over the spark plug holes... it doesnt have to be long just a few turn overs...

now your engine will be free of the gas you should wipe your plugs off and check the "GAP"

now would be a good time BTW to put new intake seals on the bike

Thank you for the response. When you say carb off do you mean off the bike or are you talking about just closing the Petcock so there is no gas going to carb? And if I take off the carb should I put anything over the throat?

dry the spark plugs out before installing them & don't forget antiseize. map gas torch will heats them up. you might as well redo the "O" ring seals on the intake.lightly butter lube them with RTV, & have someone else hold the intake level as you tighten the clamps. let it cure overnight. then re-install the carb.
