Default Recommend a gear indicator

Good Evening,

The list of little jobs continues on the GF's Sporty !
She has always wanted a gear indicator and now mine has one as standard, its ticking her off somewhat. What would you guys recommend in the way of one? I've seen the Harley one but don't like the way it looks on the bars and has switch blanks which we may never use.
It's an 09 883 with the V&H fuel pack if that makes a difference?

If anyone has pics or advise, please give me a shout back.

Thanks in advance.

Check out the digital speedometer from Harley, it has a gear indicator as well as fuel level, but that requires a sensor to work.

Thanks man, i had forgot about that.
It is an option but a little expensive. The bonus is she has the digital fuel gauge, (the one on the brake reservoir) so the sensor has been changed in the tank.

I'll see what our dealer could do it for. (just checked online £294.00 or $458.00....... Ouch)

Thanks.

Hello again,

Seen this one on a UK website but I think you may have to somehow calibrate it?
Anybody had an experience with something like this?

Thanks.

How about a tachometer? Compare speed to RPM and there ya go. That's how HDs overdrive light for 6th gear does it.

That's how I do it on my '06 1200R. I try to keep track in my mind what gear I'm in but sometimes I forget, so just look at the tach:

3000 rpm = 25 mph = 1st gear
3000 rpm = 35 mph = 2nd gear
3000 rpm = 45 mph = 3rd gear
3000 rpm = 55 mph = 4th gear
3000 rpm = 65 mph = 5th gear

Speeds are approximate, but close enough.

There's always the digital gauge by Dakota. Looks pretty slick.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Whatever we do, it will have to involve something blingy, that I do know.

The Harley tacho at the side of the speedo is a good simple option i agree but I think she is really after a physical indication, something at a quick glance.
In her defence, she had rode this bike for 4 years and loves it but its the occasional changing down into first rather than second at turns and roundabouts etc that bugs her.
The Harley combined speedo/tacho is what she is really after but UK prices are so expensive which is why I thought I would see what options were out there.

Better Start saving

£59.00 inc vat. I think it's made by Datatool, a UK company.

Thanks for the links, I will pass these on to her for approval and let you know.
