Default Electronic timer/points system

I have 3 wires that were cut and they are just hanging in the points "compartment". Sorry if that is not the correct term, I am still new to motor cycles. I am having issues in finding a detailed diagram. The wiring diagram in the service manual just shows 3 wires go in there and that is all . I have attached a picture so you can better understand what I mean. If you have any questions, let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I can see a black wire connected to the points, are there also wires to the condenser, to the left? Also, does the bike run?! If it does it looks as if for some reason you have duplicate wiring in there.

Yes, there is a black wire going from the condenser to the points. The black, green and red wire (wrapped together) are not connected to anything in that compartment. They run back to the ignition module underneth the battery compartment.

I assume it runs OK, Are you just asking what they use to go to? The cover on the newer bikes is called the timer cover plate, so guess you should call it the timer compartment. I have an old Sporty service manual. Will study it and see if I can figure it out. My Sporty manual is so old, the motor has a distributor (magneto) on it. However the typical breaker point set up has one wire. The coil 12 volt (or 6 for really old) comes to it and while points are closed charges coil to ground. When the points open, the ground breaks and the voltage jumps thru the fine wire and makes the high voltage and fires the plug. The plate indexes so you can adjust the time it fires before the top dead center of the piston. Not because electricity is slow but to get the gas fire in the cylinder going before piston gets to top. The condenser (really capacitor) kills the spark on the points to make them last longer. Appears the wires may have been to some type of electrical electronic breaker that someone used to replace points or someone converted it to points. When you understand and know how it works points are OK. I have all the dwell meters and timing lights gathering dust hanging on the wall. Years ago when something was wrong, the worst thing it would be was the points were so burnt up, you had to spend a $1.00 to get going again.

The wiring to the points comes out below the cone, close to the front exhaust pipe. What have you got down there? And does the engine run?!

I apologize for the delay in response. The bike does not run as we are not currently getting spark so we opened the timing compartment and found these wires. We assumed it may have been because of those wires not being connected to what they should be.

What is your point gap with the rub block on the high cam? You picture is slightly out of focus.

That is a good and logical deduction! The mystery is that there are three of them, which suggests to me there may have been an electronic unit in there once, as RIPSAW reckons.

To make a points system work there needs to be single wire from them out of the timing cone. That three-core wire needs to come out as it isn't serving any useful purpose, or be replaced with a new electronic ignition system.
