Default Security Solutions

Looking for some opinions on the best security solutions for when I have to park my Sportster and I want to be sure it's there when i come back. I am seeing all kinds of chains, padlocks, keylocks, disc locks, cables etc. It is very confusing

Just use your fork lock. If they want it bad enough to get past that no cable or chain or strap can deter a pair of bolt cutters or a cordless grinder with a cut off wheel etc.

Remember the old coil wire trick. Touch the bike....get a zap.

This is true. however..... My experience may be of some interest/usefulness. When I began college, my main ride was a Kawasaki H1. When I parked at UNLV, daily for a few weeks, I would put a dog choke chain collar through the back wheel.

One day I was late for class and didn't use the little chain. When I got out of class, my scooter was gone. I have always wondered if someone checked every day, and the day that little chain wasn't used, someone took advantage of my lapse in judgment?

Sure "If they want it bad enough to get past that no cable or chain or strap can deter a pair of bolt cutters or a cordless grinder with a cut off wheel etc.". But think how often people may "want it" and don't have "bolt cutters or a cordless grinder" handy?

Even more important, depending on where you are parked, people may not want to attract the attention involved with overcoming a security device. Or you could do like some people, that don't lock their cages or homes, and depend on insurance making you whole.

You add items to make it less attractive (alarms, chains, cables, etc.) which may make the thief move to the next more easy target. But if they want it they will have it.

Front caliper lock with an alarm, fork lock, and chain the back wheel to something that is secure. If they want it badly enough, they will find a way to take it.

Seen to many videos showing how easy it is to break a fork lock by working the handle bars back and forth hard a few times. Don't get me wrong, I do use my fork lock but also have the siren option installed on my security system and a disc lock just to discourage those that want to chance the alarm and get past the fork lock. Still can't just push it away when it still has a disc lock too.

Check this out, it's kind of a tiny LoJack that works on Bluetooth. It's called a tile

I expect this sort of thing to catch on, and if Apple were to buy it and automatically put the app on their devices.....
