I'm 5'5 thinking of changing my mid controls to forward controls
I'm 5'6 and forward controls fit me JUST about perfect on my 48. If you have an aftermarket seat that moves you forward or back already, then it may or may NOT work in your favor. But, otherwise, I'm comfortable and relaxed. I'd recommend getting them new. Used parts aren't always perfect in fitment, but that's up to you and the tech that install them.
I'm 5'6" and I changed out the forwards to mids on my Custom when I bought it. Provides a more 'in-control' feeling on some maneuvers when riding and easier to shift for me. I put highway pegs in the forwards for comfort on the longer rides. I can shift leg positions.
Try test riding a bike with forwards at your dealer to see how you like 'em, especially trying to sit up on bumps or pot holes.
I'm 5'8" and I like the forwards on my Custom. I even added a solo spring seat and still like them. I use the passenger pegs if I need a break or want to do a little more than just cruise. I have mini boards and don't feel the need for highway pegs. Go to a dealer and sit on a Custom.
I'm 5'11" and have forward controls on my '08 Nightster.
I find that I could use another inch or two (who couldn't? , especially on the highway for cruising. In the city they are fine.
Can you put highway pegs on a bike with forward controls already?
You can put highway pegs with forwards. You will have to get an engine guard though. Kuryakyn also makes a bar that mounts on the bike that allows you to but highway pegs on as well.
Forwards are great in my opinion. After my first longer ride, I was beat down with the mids. I was honestly worried that maybe riding wasnt for me. I bought a set of forwards and everything changed. My riding position is now completely different and more comfortable. People argue that you have more control with mids, but I believe you have more control with comfort. If you are hurting or cramping up with mids, there is no way you have more control than being comfortable and paying attention to the road with forwards. Just my opinion.
