Default Best Dark Side Tire?

Well somehow my G-Max has worn significantly since I checked the tread back in July. I am now showing as little as 3.5mm in some places in the middle of the tire. Either I measured incorrectly back in July or it has been wearing very fast. No matter, I got the almost 20,000 miles on it and am not particularly unhappy.

Anyway, now I need to pick a new car tire to put on the back of the bike. Do I go with another G-Max? It handled well with no bad habits and was cheap to purchase. Or maybe a run flat like so many other of you have been using.

Please give me your suggestions and don't forget to explain why you think your choice is the right one.

Can't guarantee I will take your advice, but I will consider it....

I ran two yokohamas in a row. The handling was fine, but the tires wore out way too early.

I'm trying a Bridgestone Drive Gaurd now. Handles fine, but I've only got 5K on it, so it's a little early to say if I am happy with it or not.

I really like the added peace of mind running a runflat. The only problem with them is I can't break the bead on them, so I've got to have a local Yamaha dealer mount them.

I was kind of worried that I wouldn't be able to tell if a RF was really flat and would run it with no air. I had a valve leaking and there was no air in the RF when I started to back the bike up the next day to go to work. I knew instantly there was a problem. That made me feel better about running the RF.

Good luck with your decision.

I have been running Darkside for a number of Years now on Electra glides. I am on my second Yoko Avid Envigor RF 195/55R16. I love this tire however it don't get exceptional mileage. It is by far the best tire I have ever had on a bike. I run it at 27 psi with 4 oz of dyna beads and its awesome. However I think they are quitting production. I have one more left that I bought. There is a ton of information on darkside on the goldwing forum. A lot of guys there are running the Bridgestone Drivegaurd and liking it.

I have also used a 205/55R16 on my electraglide and it fits fine. The speedo is more accurate.
On my 2014 Limited I hooked my Powervision up and adjusted the speedo so its dead on with my garmin GPS.

I've been running car tires since 05 and have tried many , currently on an Avid Ascend 195/60/16 rated as "mildly" asymmetric and it's been the best one I've tried to date. Also ride two up mostly and pull a trailer works well in every situation including scraping metal ! In this pic it has 15,000 miles, about half worn.
