DYNOJET: Dyno tuning a bike with Target Tune installed
#31
All Target Tune, SE Smart Tune Pro, ect. is slowly adjust the fuel mixture in a steady state condition. The ECM does not store these corrections, nor do any of these units, do anything to correct the Spark, EGR, Cam tuning, Acceleration fuel, Decel fuel, Map Normailzation or set the proper fuel mixture! So while it's a help, it by no means is it TUNING the bike. What is is doing is trimming the fuel slowly, while in a steady state condition to what was set in the ECM by the person doing the calibration. What a real good tuner is going to do with a dyno is determine what all the above mentioned information needs to be then properly adjust the settings to achieve them. If they don't do this, then they are not much of a Dyno tuner.
Now if the base calibration has all of these things correct, for your exact combination, then these modules will at least help you get the steady state fuel adjusted.

IME most all typical stage1 bikes will run a bit better with most all tuning devices in the right hands be it dyno or street tuned.
It is when the owner ups the hp with higher compression, high performance cams, heads, throttle body, high output injectors that tuning devices show their strengths and weaknesses. Tuners see the differences from one tuning system to another and the end results they produce.
That said, I still recommend to use whichever system you chosen tuner gets the best results from.
