Go pro camera?
These are amazing little cameras but there are some issues that may or may not affect your situation. They don't perform well indoors and tend to produce grainy photos or video. The battery life is also not good ranging from 1 to 2.5 hours. Also, there is no viewfinder so they're a little tricky to aim.
They produce awesome HD video outside so if you're looking for a handlebar or helmet mount you should be very pleased.
They are readily available at Best Buy and most good electronics stores.

Hero is basic model, Hero 2 is HD model, and new released model is Hero 3, suggest checking out their website. Decide what model and type of package (accessories you want), ad go from there. I have Hero 2 and can say it is amazing for size. If you dive or do any other sports, ski, MTB, surf or anything it can be made to fit. Handlebar attachment is pretty good BUT I have read on here that folks have lost them on the ride, so perhaps a homemade tether of wire might be wise time investment. I have used their clamps with no problem. The New Hero 3 is pretty sweet for capabilities, and read a few reviews on line might help.

They now have an app to allow full remote control the Hero 2 and Hero 3 cameras with WiFi. Soooo freaking cool!

Use your smartphone or tablet as a live video remote–includes video and photo preview. Requires HD HERO2 camera and Wi-Fi BacPac™ (not included) or HERO3 camera with a product software update.
Another note about GoPro: they don't come "out of box" able to mount on a tripod. I think that's a downside if you want to do anything other than stick it on your helmet, the 1/4-20 stud is universal. You have to buy their adaptor (think it's about $9).

I just took a piece of plexi, and drilled and threaded it with 1/4x20 threads. I then used the GoPro supplied
stick on mount.
This setup handled an 8 day tour out west with no problems. The black items are Ram Mount items.
I did add the LCD backpack screen so I can see exactly what I'm recording/shooting.

Here's a quick, cheap way to alleviate the mounting problem.

Thanks
It's not shown in that photo, but I actually did attach a short tether to the camera 'just in case'. I lost a GPS a while back when I hit a water filled pot hole one day. Ever since then I've used tethers on my cameras and GPS's.
Just a note: When you buy the LCD screen it comes with a skeleton case. This case has an opening in the side that you can use to provide USB power. No more battery worries. (You can see the power cord in the photo.)
