Just thought I'd share the first set of modifications I completed on my 05 Road King Classic. This was the first time I worked on a bike:
When I received the bike it was very dirty and I'm still cleaning it. The first picture shows how I received it. I took the radio, windshield and handlebars off and replaced the seat. I installed the Le Pera Bare Bones solo, which I enjoy very much thus far, but I wish it would reach a bit higher towards the dash. I installed new Wild1 Chubby WO550 beach bars, extended the wires, ran them internally, put new chrome housings and new chrome switch buttons on, new Accutronix grips, new Kurykayn dress up kit (over lever master cylinder), drained & removed old brake lines, installed new Magnum Shielding Chromite stainless steel brake lines, throttle & idle cables, replaced the air filter and seal.
I will let my mechanic put on the stainless clutch cable & clutch lever dress up kit as he will have to remove the exhaust anyway to check the cam chain tensioners.
It all went very well - thanks to a lot of great posts on this forum, YouTube and various other websites. I saved a ton of time by utilizing some of the tips (such as tying a string, I used fishing line to the old throttle & idle cable and pulling them out towards the front and then pulling the new lines backward - never had to touch the gas tank!)
I did make many mistakes, but most importantly I took my time and I took her out for a test drive to day and I absolutely love it! Extremely comfortable!
