Default Found Big Problem...need help

Bought a 03 Electra Classic with 13,000 miles. Test rode it, ran and rode fine. Got over 1000 miles on it and about 500 miles ago noticed the highway shimmy getting worse and then the drive belt got loose to where after adjusting it back to spec's it was at the end of its travel. Well belt starting getting loos again so I figured it might be the swing arms bushings going, so tore out the swing arms and found that where the swing arms shaft goes thru the trans housing is broke off. Has anyone heard of this happening? Far as I know the bike has never been in a accident and all original. Could this be a casting failure? Also found a 99 trans with a part number of 33035-99, my part number is 33035-03 will the 99 trans work? Thanks for any help. Chris

Can't answer your question between the 99 and 03 trans cases being swapable. Try to call a dealer that has a good parts man and see if the same part number would be used in the 99 and 03 as a replacement case. If not ,you may be best to pick up a new 03 case and swap internals. Let me see if I can find any info for you.

Here's what I found out, They changed the swingarm in 02. You can make it fit by drilling it out to the proper sized swingarm shaft. 01 and older is a smaller size, so scrap the idea on the 99[:-]

Ok, Thanks. Talked to harley, have to put it back together to take it to the dealer to see if they will cover it.
