I would go ahead with a new rear, if not too radically different from the front. Whatever, do as you wish. I am still replacing dunlops with dunlops. I am getting good miles, good performance, no desire for me to change at this time.
YMMV.

2005 ultra
running 402 mt90b16 front is still at 4/32nd (new is 5/32nd)
rear mu85b16 needs changing it is also 4/32nd new is 11/32nd)
want to try the commander ii ,will it be ok to run the new rear with the old front to wear it out and then next change but two that match (comm II)
some say not to others say it is ok since they are different axles, sound ok to me.
also some feed back on the comm ii tires ,, milage ,,handeling , wet , dry, cornering, ETC...
or should I just stay with the dunny's?? got good milage out of them , just want to try the commander ii's
thanks Mike
I drank the kool aid on none OEM tires and went with Commander II's, then the new Metz 888 on my Heritage. They gave me less then 1000 miles more then my OEM 402. I gave up the ride quality and the handling of the 402's I now went back to the 402 on the rear, it sticks when riding the twisties and rides much better. In the case of the tires, I now believe the engineers do know what works the best.
I have an 09 ultra and have been using Shinko SR777 on front and rear. The best tires IMHO. They have tread pattern almost the same as the Elites but way cheaper. $122 rear, $100 front. They are used in racing and on drag bikes. Anyway, my 2c.

That's what I use on my Dyna. I get good mileage from them. They stck really well on a launch.
I am GW
Im getting around 8,000 on the rear which is about 3,000 more than I get with the 492 or 404 Dunlop tires.
Dunlop tires are a goody safe tire for touring. I get around 12,000 to 14,000 with the elite III on my 07 ultra.
