So, today I almost laid my bike down.
I crashed more times than I can count on dirt bikes. Have the scars to prove it. The word back then was, "If you don't crash alot, you aren't going fast enough" But, when I rode a dirt bike, I rode by myself. A crash would only result in damage to myself and my bike.
This time I'm with my wife on the back.
We are out for a nice ride on some really cool back roads. We pull up to an off-camber stop sign and over it goes. Don't know how. All I could do is slow the fall over. My wife, the trooper that she is, hopped off and grabbed the back end and helped me bring it back up. Checked for damage. Nothin but a small scratch on the left pipe. My wife is pretty bad ***!!!!
I've been there. Convinced my wife (GF at the time) to take her first long road trip a few years ago. I had just bought my used 2007 street glide about a month before. Got to a T-shaped intersection at the top of a hill, hit the brakes to stop, put my foot down and there was a giant hole right there, bike tipped over, she fell off and tumbled down a small hill on the shoulder. In retrospect, we laugh about it, but I felt like a total failure because she was on the bike and I was responsible for her. It happens, as long as everyone is ok, then life goes on.
WB is correct!!! I have ridden over 40 years and it just happens wet, loose rock, sand, etc. I never thought much about it until the last 4 years when I have a wife that loves to ride the first one would not so I try to be more careful now.
Nice Lunker WB sure would have like to have that in my tournament last weekend....
Put my foot down on a smashed skoal can lid in a parking lot, and foot slid out from under it like it was on ice. Down she went. Crash bars saved damage. It happens.
this happened to me at work years ago on my old Dyna, backing it out of the garage I had it in, put my foot down, lo and behold, a pot hole got me........embarrasing, but life goes on I guess....
Glade you both are ok, I have been there also with my wife on the back, the worse part was it was completely my fault, coming to a stop at a turn around, yes I did it grabbed the front brake pulled us down like a magnet, even tho she was ok minor scratch on her arm, knowing better made me feel even worse.
