Default compensator replacement

Just finished replacing compensator on my 13 street glide with 32000 mi on it. Bike seems alot tighter especially in first gear. Gone is slap bang starts and clank at shut off. Did'nt seem like alot of wear on components except for polished metal on ramps and spokes of sprocket. I did notice that it was very easy to wiggle the engine sprocket with out the crank turning. I wonder if a person could have just added a washer to tighten things up and saved $300.

I too have wondered if that thinnest, smallest spring washer could be replaced with a shim or bushing. On the other hand, people have reported heavy wear on the cam face/sprocket spoke interface and that might suggest too much spring force even from the smallest belleville spring.

I think it's not enough spring force causing too much movement thus wear

I just installed mine last night.

I know the 42200064A version of the SE Compensator did away with the 2 shims PN 10300021 that (one or both) were to be placed against the alternator rotor.

The kit shipped with the old instruction PDF and I called boardtracker to ask where the shims were and they were deleted. On another note, my kit also shipped missing the 5th (small) disc spring. Another called to Boardtracker resolved that issue free of charge with overnight shipping.

I hope they had a good price to make up for obsolete instructions and being short a critical part. Aren't those kits made up at a factory, not off of someone's parts shelves?

Repalced my stock on my 13 with the new 2014 S/E version at 19K miles and added the Compensaver by GMR performance. I now have 47500 on the bike and it has not gotten nearly as bad as the stock one did at 19k. I'll get a clunk evey once in a while but i am sure it still has far less wear than the stock comp had when I changed it.

I bought a Baker Comp but never installed it as it was not bad enough yet and sold it to a buddy who has had zero issues with that on his 120hp 08 bagger.

I will put the Baker next time it gets replaced but this was replaced before the baker was readily available. I have their 6 speed in one of my pother bikes and it is the smoothest tranny I have ever had on any Harley.

I am thinking this comp may last till 60k or 70k miles. I run Drag Specialties primary oil in the primary and always have.

I'm going to hold onto my old compensator and if new one starts to make noise double up on small spring.

My 2010 RK had loud bang starts from the first day I bought the bike. I put up with it for about 6 months, then swapped it out for the SE Comp, that was about 4 years ago and now almost 40K on the speedo. No issues at all with the SE comp.

But, when I swapped out the comp, I also decided to slightly overfill the primary when changing the lube. I use Formula+ and I always overfill by 1-2 ozs. There are posts on here from others that do the same thing. Just something to consider.......
