Has anybody had any sucess mounting an ipod? I listen to my ipod more than the radio and I put it in my pocket but it would be nice to have where it could be accessed.
Actually I've been contemplating getting one of the new iPod nano's (would be my first) for riding and I was wondering how many out there use any type of MP3 players while riding. I wasn't sure if it was really a safe thing to do since it would mask your hearing. Also what type of headset / earbuds do you use.
Sorry if this is a semi-thread jacking. I figured it was on the same line of topic.

I love the HD mp3 player. While not nearly the features of an ipod, it's mounting and usability on a bike is unbeatable. Before you mount one though make sure the AB switch on back is set to A position or you'll be dissapointed in it's volume. Not sure about it's use with headphones though I'm sure this could be worked out.
I run a standard iPod on my RoadGlide. I just put it in my left glove box in the fairing and run an audio cable to my stereo aux input. Works out great but I cannot see the display or manipulate the controls as the iPod is under a cover. Last week I bought a RAM Mount for my GPS unit from cyclegadgets.com and I will also pick up an Ipod mount for the same mounting base that I used for the GPS in the near future so that I can switch between the two.
I use a Dell 15GB jukebox, (have an Ipod on the christmas list) I use it in my pocket, it's not very accessable but it works ok that way. I use Koss ear buds, I get them at the local base exchange (retired Navy) but I understand Best Buy has them too. I paid 12.95 for them and they are great. As long as you don't turn them up too loud or ride with one out in town you should be ok. I keep the volume around 17 and I can still most engine noise and I scan my sides and mirrors quite a bit.
The wife uses her I-pod on the bike. Like RGerber posted cycle gadgets has the mount for your bike I think it is the HR-1 SAE mount you want and the I-pod adapter. I think I got the part number correct. That"s what I have on my ride. Plugs right into the aux port. Got the cable for it from Radio Shack...cheap. I too am thinking the NANO might be nice. It sure is small. Besides who can go through 1000 songs on a ride anyway. My butt and Mr. Happy would be screaming "if you ever want to reproduce your gene pool...GET ME OFF RIGHT NOW.
