Hi All, I am thinking of changing the bars on my RK Classic, I like the look of the beach bar style and want to run the wires inside. Anyone recommend a particular brand or style, remembering I am in the UK. I was also looking to make life as easy as possible so would like to keep standard length cables etc. What bars are you guys using? pics would be good too. Thanks.
Search for pictures of wild 1 Bars - like WO504 Dresser bars, WO550 Beach bars, Harley Beach and Narrow beach bars, Mentele bars, Big Johnson...the list goes on.
Unless you're really lucky old chap I doubt if you will find someone with experience of doing that here in the UK. I suggest you have several options: import a proper kit from the USA, from a known dependable supplier; source the bars here and if necessary extend the wiring yourself; you could also try AR Harley, a UK importer. Be aware (if not already) that shipping from the USA can be expensive and there are taxes and other charges when your goodies arrivive on our shores. If you want more details on the importing side, get in touch.
Thanks for the replies guys, the pics have given me food for thought Crusty. Hi Graham, hows it going mate? The wiring is no prob for me, I have a guy that extended the wiring when I internally wired the bars on my Sportster, I ran the cables and then gave him the bars to solder the connectors on, he charged me Ł10, hardest bit was drilling the bars to take the wires so this time I want some ready drilled, I just dont want to change brake lines and clutch cable, it gets bloody expensive.
Hi Gary, you've obviously got any wiring cracked! AR Harley covers a lot of US brands who sell bars, so if these chaps can identify one that fits the bill you may be able to get it here. There are also Zodiac dealers, on thinking about it, who may provide another UK source.
I swapped my stock RK bars out for a set of stock Heritage bars off a Soft Tail. Cables fit no problem and I just had to tweak the front brake line a tiny bit to do the swap. The Heritage bars are by far more comfortable than the RK bars. They are just tall enough to be comfortable without stretching and they can pull back for a closer grip and riding position.
