This... mostly.

I gap mine at 43 thousandths... (those who know me probably figured that LOL) I check them every 5k and change them every 10k...
And they really don't need changing then

Hype over "special" plugs is just that, hype. They are there to light the fire, once the fire is lit, they have done their job. You are not getting more HP or TQ with high dollar plugs, you are not getting better MPG with high dollar plugs, hell, you're not even impressing your friends with high dollar plugs because they can't see them. If you're not burning the ground or electrode off your current plugs, you don't need high dollar plugs, unless they make you feel warm and fuzzy, in which case run them!
I promise they won't HURT anything, they will do what they are designed to do.

A dealer tech told me the same thing. There's essentially no difference in plugs except price.

how many replies can we give to a simple "what's the correct gap" thread?

here's my 2c:
if you use the wire type gappers that you should your choice is only 0.040.

===============

Not always.

Case in point on a kawi 1000 i bought new in in 1977.

With the only thing i did was going from std stock type NGK's to same = heat range splitfires that had a " Y " design ground strap that exposed more spark kernal to the combustion chambers for more efficient combustion that " in fact increased fuel mileage " from a solid avg 48-48.5mpg with stock std ngk's to a solid avg of 50-50.5 mpg with the splitfire " Y " design ground strap plugs in same riding cond & speeds which was a solid 1.5-2mpg increase in fuel mileage.

I then installed them the 98 nissan maxima V6 i had at the time and with that plug change being the only change i made at the time to the car it picked up a solid 1-1.5 mpg in same driving cond & speeds too.

I then put triple plat splitfires in the wifes 98olds with 3.1v6 it picked up a solid 1-1.25mpg in again, same driving cond & speeds.

And along with doing all riding/driving in same areas @ same approx speeds i also used the same gas pump @ the same gas station when filling & refilling to ensure consistency in testing.

So point is in my experience installing splitfires " Y " design ground strap exposing more spark kernal to combustion chambers in 3 of my vehicles resulting in increased fuel mileage in every case verified / proved to me spltfires " Y " design ground strap did in fact increase efficiency & fuel mileage as advertised .

That showed it wasn't a fluke where of having for example just 1 vehicle where spltifires increased mpg when all 3 of my vehicles got increased mpg post installing splitfires being the only change i made at the time.

Thats coming from 1st hand experience with the splitfires in mult vehicles and not just opinion knocking something or stating it's no good or can't doesn't work when they may not have ever tested it or not in more then then 1 vehicle while also doing what it takes to reduce variation & or ensure more consistency & accuracy in the testing too.

BTW,even though splitfires arent on the market these days i managed to find some new NOS splitfires ofr proper heat range to try in my HD sometime to see if they increase mpg in that bike too which may or may not be the case, only time will tell on that one.

As always,JMO $.02 /LOL!!

Scott
