Skulls date back to WWII. After the war a lot of young single GI's came back with little money and motorcycles were more affordable than anything else. Having come from beingsurrounded by deathand many of them not readily fitting back into society they hung out together, with few skills holding jobs was hard and haunted by the war and all the killing, nobody understood them. They gravitated together, drank to forget and had little else to do but ride ... gangs, rebels, outlaws, outcasts, and other labels I'm sure. Its part of the biker culture. Last year I think it was the discovery channel had a 2 hour history which you can likely find on the web. It spoke of the origin of a lot of things. The label Moto Cross came from the press because Motorcycle Cross Country would fit in a head liner. Moto Cross started in Europe and when it came to the U.S. it had many rules and regulations which a lot of x GI's did not wish to conform to. The Label "Outlaws" started from guys literally "crashing the party" so to speak and running in moto cross competitions "outside the laws", just to ride bikes they modified themselves. The art ofthese modificationslead tothe term"Choppers" which has changed dramatically overtime. Other things like "Cafe Racers" evolved in Britain. Once again young unemployed guys hanging out in cafe's started a sport of dropping a quarter in the juke box and racing to the next cafe hangout to see if they could get back before the song ended which also created a lot of speed and aerodynamic modifications.

Our 2 wheel passion has a lot of history. I rode my first Harley in the navy back in the early 70's. Even as recent as the early 70's a lot of choppers were born from little money, the desire to ride, a rattle can of black spray paint(non motorcycle people thought Harleys only came in black), and friends with spare parts. Hope my rambling helps you get that skulls are a part of the culture anddeath today isas close as a mistake in traffic or an error in judgement.

I can understand the "LIVE TO RIDE, RIDE TO LIVE", the Service badges (Army, AF, N, Marines). What i don't get is the skull!
What is it you guys think is good or cool about a skull?
Actually it comes down to a very simple thing,....Live and Let Live. We all have our own things that we are attracted to. When I bought my 04 EGC it already was started with the skulls and I just continued the theme. I'm glad I did,....(my Christian family does'nt much appreciate it) but with that said the bike looks very classy. Have you ever done anything that others just did'nt understand? It's the same thing......Let's all just ride on help each other out when needed, and leave our personal statements just that....Have a Great Day!
