Possible electrical issues
OP: get inside the fairing and check the electrical connectors, especially the headlight connector.
Check the battery cable connections.
Does the entire electrical system lose power or just the headlamp?
Also check the ground, as Vernal says, they are the common link in these two circuits...

In my shop this morning before coming to work I cranked it up and let it idle some. The volt meter never wavered. The light was on strong. I reved it up to about 2k RPM and it was steady still. Then I took it to about 3K RPM and then the volt meter started the going down to 12.5 volts then going back up. the headlight (that I thought was going out while I was driving down the road in the dark) was not going out, it was just getting extremely dim. I just could not see my headlight while I was going down the road. So this is now pointing to a charging problem I guess. It was fine when I let it back to 2k RPMS and idle. I will take things apart this weekend and see if I can do the checks that "Vernal" has in his post.
