Default Quick FP3 question.

I was told that upon installing the FP3 the O2 sensors are no longer being utilized therefore are not needed. I always thought that O2 sensors were needed to monitor the engine and tell the FP3 what is needed to maintain the pre-determined map. What is real deal here?

Thanks,
Rich

Whoever told you that is FOS! The 02 sensors is exactly where the auto tune gets readings from and also what keeps the bike in closed loop. The only time they're not used is temporarily while the bike gets up to operating temp (runs in open loop til it does) and if you manually richen the A/F ratio more than 14.35:1 in the fuel map. If you removed them or just left them unplugged I would guess it would probably throw a code and your check engine light would be on.

BlueBeast, nailed it. Was it an HD tech that said that?

Didn't get any black clips with mine. Just the FP3. Plugged it in, downloaded the map, and it's been running great.

I don't have any pictures as this whole situation is what my cousin is going through. however, I too am planning on going with V&H Dresser Duals with the FP3 and I am skeptical of disconnecting the O2 sensors. Through some more research, I found that in certain situations V&H does recommend Eliminating the O2 sensors and using an O2 eliminator to trick the computer into thinking it has correct resistance values under closed loop.

I have never seen it documented anywhere by V&H that you should disconnect 02 sensors. Maybe it exists, but I haven't seen it nor do I think there is any reason to do it.
