So was out on a nice ride this morning, and ping went the throttle cable - some 2hrs later I am finaly back home after a ride in the back of a van!
So would seem the HD cable is obsolete, only option is aftermarket (which I am fine with), but I am just not sure what I need - seems to be conflicting lengths out there?
A: Does anyone know the length I need
B: How do they measure them, is the outer black plastic, or the actual cable inner itself?
Needless to say I wont be taking advantage of the awesome sun coming tomorrow and will have to do some adult crap like mowing the lawn :-(
( or i might just switch and use the idle cable :-p )
It's been a long time since I busted a cable. But twice i've used a method that my old wrench taught me to get home. You can unscrew the cable where it attaches at the bars. keep some vise grips in the tool bag. Clamp the vise grip to the inner portion of the cable. Place the vise grip on your right grip. Use electrical tape, wire or cable ties to attach the vise grip to the grip. It will get you home or to the shop if nobody is available to haul you or if you just want to get where you're going. Only takes a few minutes.
Some are offered by Sterling Chromite, some are offered by Drag themselves, etc. Some are plain black vinyl, some are black braided, etc. and vary in price from $30 - $80. It was just to give you an idea and a way to google the part numbers to see what you want and where to buy it.
And if it's an old model with the early EFI, the idle cable can be made to work as a throttle cable while you're waiting for a new throttle cable to come in.
