Noticed my 08 ultra having an unusual vibration coming from drivetrain area. Thought it was a flat tire at first because it felt like I was driving over ribbed washboard pavement. But when you hauled in clutch and let the bike coast the vibration disappeared.
Put it on the bike jack, removed rear bag and rolled drive pulley back and forth, noticed a metal knocking noise coming from behind primary around where front of belt wraps around that front sprocket.
Bike has always had a knocking noise in first gear, when you let out clutch without giving it gas, say when moving around in the garage.
Anyway got it trailered to mechanic to find problem.
Any thoughts on probable cause?. Bike has 22000 miles.

Sounds like a compensator issue. Why do you move it around in the garage while in first gear?
Edit: Oh wait, I get it. You mean feathering the throttle while moving short distances. Sounds even more like a compensator. Do a search on compensators. It will make your head spin!
But would a bad comp give you a vibration while driving?, I thought it was more of a knock on start-up with a bad comp.
I was hoping for a bit more input on this issue.
I would put a Baker Compensator on the bike, the insanity needs to end by going with a product that actually has a solution to the problem. IF I have to replace mine, that's where I'm going.
