My indie advised against apes with angles, saying he has seen a number of bikes with bars like the Twin Peaks and Mayhem style, where the vibration eventually led to the angles of the bars cutting thru the internal wiring and causing shorts. I do like that style! but I was wondering if anyone has had a smoking bars incident?

Sounds to me like he is advising against them, 'cause he doesn't want to internally wire them for you. He's trying to sell you on an "easier" style.
Buy what you want/like, then maybe check with a different indy.
50k miles on mine....no hiccups, burps, farts, smoke, or fire.
The only thing smoking about those bars are they way they look. Some of the retarded crap mechanics tell people boggles me. If that were the case those bars wouldnt be as popular as the are and there would be 100 threads about it on here.. I've had mine for 2 years with zero issues

Your Indy is a Tard. Do the job yourself. It's not hard to do and it's self gratifying.
I think ape hangers look ridiculous on any bike with a fairing. However, I have installed many of them for others and have had no problems. It is a pretty straight forward job. Save some money and do it yourself. Be sure there are not any sharp edges on the bars that could damage the wiring and you won't have any problems.

And I thought I was the only one who thought that. Lol. Lower. 12" under I kinda like. But it just looks unnatural. But ride your ride. Whatever makes you happy.
My 10" apes were delivered today. Lol. Mitered also op. I'm not concerned. Like someone said. The forum would be full of threads about smoking bars.
I have twin peak Buky Bars, 10,000 miles no issues, sounds like you guy doesn't want to install. I did mine my self with 9 inch extensions. I'm no mechanic and did it easily.
I would be far more concerned about voluntarily adding some more sharp stuff to hit in the event of the proverbial sudden stop. "Cool" could have a very high price well beyond chafed wires.
