Default Lowers?

I am working my way back into HD. I bought a Road King new in 2006, and I added a stereo, tour pak, etc., etc. so that the wife and I would have space for long trips. I am now looking at 2011-2013 Ultras. I want to stay with the air cooled 103 so that I can remove the lowers.
I have no experience riding with lowers on, and quite frankly they kind of spook me....I always wonder if they would get in the way of my big feet at a panic stop.

Am I just paranoid or do you guys find they are not a problem getting your feet off the boards?

Ran years without lowers. Bought an 11 RGU last year. When I traded it in in a 16 RGS I ordered the color matched lowers that day. Love my lowers. Summer heat isn't an issue. Don't notice much of a difference with them on. Won't have a bike without them.

Size 12 boot. No issues.

You wont have any issues from the lowers. I have both a Road King and an Ultra Limited. I jump back and forth between the two all the time. You wont catch your feet in them. The lowers are nice. Less wind flapping your pants legs around and two more cubby holes for storage.

in a panic stop your feet better be going down on the brake anyway. Not forward up into the lowers.

Also, I can't say for sure but I remember seeing here on the forum before, an ultra will actually run hotter with the lowers off. Again, can't confirm that though but if you look at them, they do catch some extra air and direct it right at the front of the motor.

I don't remember where I read it but I'm sure it was a thread on this forum. A guy did some temperature tests and found the engine ran a little cooler with the lowers funneling air over the engine.
To answer the OP's question. The lowers have never gotten in the way of my feet operating the controls.

I like my lowers summer and winter. They do have vents that you can open and close

Unless you're "gifted" with size 14 feet ( ), you'll be fine w/lowers. Never get in the way on my '09 FLHX and only remove to clean.

A couple of months back I put them on my `15 Street Glide. Went out on a 100 mile ride, got home and removed them. I kept kicking them when shifting and braking. To me, you had to have your feet "squarely" on the floorboards and I can't ride being "forced" to do that. Lots of riders love them but not me!

I've hit my lower with my brake foot but reaction brings it right to the pedal, and I've learned where my foot can go. Comfort is outstanding as far as blocking the super cool air and rain and air is forced/channeled onto the cylinders.

I would never have a bike without lowers, never take mine off.

I added lowers to my Road King last winter and ride year round with them. As others have said, the vent is nice and have had no issues with heat during summer.
