Default Speedbleeder install: with original HD o-ring or not?

The Speedbleeder brake fluid nipple replacements do not come with an o-ring--but, the original HD nipple does have one. I have not seen any reference to installing this o-ring on the Speedbleeder. If you have experience with this I would like to know. Thank you.

O-ring like rubber or copper washer? Copper washer should be replaced. Part store should be able to match it. I know I've reused them and not had issue, but I always replace them on the bike for fear a brake leak would splash the bike with dot4 and it'd be getting a new paint job.

Rubber o-ring on HD brake fluid drain nipple that screws in the top of each caliper.

Just screw the Speed Bleeders in as is. Nothing else needed. The H-D rubber nipple cover though will not work on the Speed Bleeders, use the ones supplied with the bleeders. They pop off real easy when washing or polishing too.

I was not referring to the rubber cap. On the original HD caliper there is a recess at the very top of the hole where an o-ring fit--through which the nipple gets screwed in.

I had the same issue.....here's a post I made at the time

nvm, found this in the service manual, maybe helpful to others :

When removing or replacing a bleeder valve in the rear
brake caliper or front banjo bleeder bolts, remove the oring from the bleeder valve groove or bore and discard.
The o-ring is required only for brake bleeding at the factory .
Although not sold separately , it may be present in certain
assemblies as currently sold. If care is not taken to remove
and discard the o-ring, it ma y become lodged in the caliper/banjo bleeder bolt bore during bleeder valve installation and prevent proper torquing or sealing

Ah---the definitive answer to my question. I wonder though why the text identifies only the rear caliper rather than all or any of the calipers? I do have a service manual for my 2006 cycle, but I have yet to find the instruction you provided me.

Thank you.

That was from my 09 EG with the Brembo calipers, btw.

I also called the Speedbleeder people. They say the o-ring is not used on their bleeder valves.

I learned something new today. Thanks for posting the follow-up with information from the manufacturer.
