Default Gremlin Help

I own a 2009 FLHTCU - Ultraglide
At least once a season while riding the speedometer suddenly stops working as well as the Odometer and sixth gear dash light.

If I stop for lunch or fuel it goes back to normal.

These functions are controlled by the speed controller on the top of the Transmission.
It's easy to replace and about $65, but is there a better cause or place to look?

Frequently this is caused by an accumulation of fine metal particles and shavings on the sensor. It is "free" to remove it to look and clean it if it needs it. How long since a transmission fluid change. The magnet on the drain plug might not be able to catch any more and the particles are now collecting on the sensor. When you pull the wires off, check the studs and sockets for cleanliness and corrosion.

15,000 mile service at just under 15,000

Not necessarily a "better place or cause", but one not mentioned much, would be the molex connectors. A few years ago my 2001 was displaying signs of a failing speed sensor. I replaced the sensor, but the problems continued. I eventually found that some of the molex connectors (white plastic wire connectors) behind the batwing had some corrosion on them. Once I cleaned up the corrosion, all of the problems went away.
