Squelch essentially kills your audio below certain s/n on receive, don't think that could affect radio turning on unless Harley has cb output wired in a pretty unusual way.
Hmm, I'm just "spit balling here" but radio worked great, then squelch switch fell apart and now, radio does not work... YES....that could be the problem.
Ok, I'm admittedly not familiar with that radio but the squelch switch should only affect CB operation and maybe the intercom. It should not affect the am, fm or your cassette.
I suspose it's possible it could have caused a short when it fell apart and blew a fuse.
Have you checked the fuses?

To Kruzen's point: Are you sure it's just the switch that's broken?
I'm not familiar with the '04 controls, but in my '16, the switch is part of the right side control pack where all those controls are on the same board. One unfortunately placed crack in the board could affect everything related to the right handlebar controls.
